NXT Takeover R Evolution airs live on the WWE Network this Thursday, 11th December, and the show is already shaping up to be an excellent card – not least because Kevin Owens is rumoured to be making his long-awaited debut.

Spread over an extensive, 2-hour special, the pre-show also offers an air of intrigue as Corey Graves has a special announcement for the NXT Universe regarding his future with the company. Graves has suffered a series of concussions and his career was put in jeopardy as a result – since the latest injury, he has been working on the NXT production team, so it’ll be interesting to hear what he has to say and it’ll definitely kick the evening off in style.

NXT Tag Team Championship Match: The Lucha Dragons -v- The Vaudevillainsnxttt

The Vaudevillains have been getting under the skin of Kalisto and Sin Cara lately, in an innovative build-up to an already exciting tag match. The Dragons will be firmly set on retaining the titles, and their high-flying tactics may just be enough to stop the seemingly unstoppable duo of Simon Gotch and Aiden English.

Tag Team Match: Finn Balor & Hideo Itami -v- The Ascensionttnxt (1)

Balor and Itami have been making serious waves in NXT since they almost simultaneously entered the fray a few months ago, working well both in singles matches and later as a tag team force to be reckoned with. And, at R Evolution, Konnor and Viktor are set to prove their dominance on the NXT ranks by taking down two of the hottest commodities on the current roster.

The Ascension are also rumoured to be moving up the ranks soon, following a vignette teaser for them at this week’s Smackdown tapings. This is great news for the popular duo, and no doubt they will enhance the fledgling tag league in the WWE.

This match is one where typical WWE storytelling tropes could sneak in, in particular, as the NXT writers are presented with a difficult decision to make: put over the new tag recruits, leaving them on a high before the big leagues, or, the more likely option,  knock them down before setting them up on Smackdown.

A loss wouldn’t hinder either Itami or Balor, and in fact could allow them focus on the singles competition, but it’s still early days so it looks like they might be a team for a while yet.

Nevertheless, The Ascension will prove too much for them and leave NXT victorious, setting them up firmly to destroy the ranks of Smackdown.

NXT Divas Championship Match: Charlotte Flair -v- Sasha Banksdivas

Current NXT Divas champ Charlotte is another recruit who is already prepared to be called up to the main roster and, with that in mind, it looks like she’s about to drop the title to entertaining heel Banks in this match, the build-up for which has revolved around fellow Diva Bayley, and her troubles with Banks and her buddy, Becky Lynch.

Charlotte playing the babyface in aiding Bayley, while fighting back against the heels, and succumbing to their underhanded tactics as a result, will all be resolved tonight at the PPV.

Her imminent move up to the main roster, and the star power of her family’s legacy, will help Charlotte to become established with the mainstream audience yet tonight will see her drop the NXT title – the win won’t be clean, but it’ll at least allow her to resolve the feud, while simultaneously setting up a whole new dynamic in the Divas division in the process.

Main Event: NXT Championship Match: Adrian Neville -v- Sami Zayn

This match has the potential to steal the show, and have fans talking about it for a long time, too. Each of the matches in this series has been truly excellent, and this one will be no different.

Sami Zayn has upped the ante by putting his career on the line for this, promising to leave NXT if he cannot win the big one, while Neville has been an impressive talent and a dominant champion, even with his use of selling a fake injury and costing his friend Zayn numerous shots at the title.

The impending arrival of Kevin Owens could also play out during this match, either via a run-in during the match, attacking the champion before or after, or just disrupting it in general.

My best guess would be Zayn wins the title, only to be attacked by Owens, thereby setting up a feud between the two, while keeping Neville over and freeing him up for a new venture in the future.

There are only four matches announced so far, but expect one or two late additions to the card. Depending on how much NXT want to push the Bull Dempsey/Baron Corbin squash rivalry and the ever-entertaining Enzo Amore/Big Cass, Tyler Breeze and Tyson Kidd all could be involved.

Either way, we’re in for a hell of a night. And with TLC to follow just a few days later, NXT could be set to blow WWE out of the water in the process, too.
