Wrasslin’ Wahey Of The Week 11

As much as it pains me to admit this, Grumpy Cat was not the worst thing on Raw this week. In fact, Grumpy Cat was actually one of the more enjoyable elements of the show, not least because she was involved in some well-judged, and very on the nose, comedic moments with The Miz and his stunt double, Damien Mizdow.

The majority of us scoffed at the idea of having what is basically an internet meme as a special guest – though the announcement that next week we get Larry The Cable Guy put it slightly more into perspective – but let’s face it, anything that gives more airtime to the hilarious Mizdow, and less to bullshit like the goddamn Bunny (it was JUSTIN GABRIEL mlaaaaaaaarg), can only be a good thing.

After all, it led to King making a decent joke for the first time…ever? With an unbridled look of glee in his eyes, the Hall Of Famer noted that the cat, who was practically comatose at the time, had clearly just watched one of Miz’s movies. The man himself, in fairness to him, has been playing up his persona remarkably well over the past few weeks but he really excelled in trying to pitch ideas to Grumpy Cat for movie roles, before getting annoyed, flouncing off, and then immediately returning to kiss ass again. What a star.

Later, Erick Rowan turned up to schmooze too. But, after freaking Miz and his loyal double out a bit, he demanded the cat, only for him to snatch Mizdow’s beloved Stuntcat from his outstretched arms instead, leaving Miz noticeably confused/devastated (I dunno, he doesn’t have much range, okay?)

Granted, the hilarious duo did even better work in – and out of, in Mizdow’s case – the ring later on but this was still a silly, diverting little segment that was much, much funnier than what The Bunny did to Adam Rose following his match. Never forget.

As shocking as it is to admit it, Grumpy Cat was a hit at Raw, with practically every single Superstar taking an opportunity to pose grumpily with her.

Er, apart from this lot, who didn’t quite understand what was going on.

She even took her chances in the ring, although we don’t know who her opponent was (Rosa Mendes, maybe?)

Having Grumpy Cat as a guest seemed like the worst idea since Hogan shilling Susan G. Komen for twenty fucking minutes the other week, in place of a match or the advancement of any storylines, but her appearance gave the show a much-needed boost. Raw seemed fun this week, and it hasn’t in a while.

All things considered, it’s nice to know that the WWE isn’t totally cynical (yet). Or that a cat can bring out the best in everyone. Or that professional wrestling really is weird enough that all of this made sense somehow.

  1. […] open this week with the same ol’ recap of Survivor Series, focusing on Sting and the end of The Authority and whatnot, before we’re reminded of Triple H’s super-good promo […]
